Afghan President Hamid Karzai met Manmohan Singh

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here on Tuesday evening.

President Karzai, who arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit beginning today, met Dr. Singh at the Hyderabad House here ahead of bilateral talks between the two countries.

The Afghan President is expected to hold one-to-one and delegation level talks with Dr. Singh on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.

The two sides are expected to sign three agreements- one on enhancing an existing strategic partnership, and two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)- for cooperation in mining and hydrocarbons.

President Karzai earlier in the day met External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

The two leaders exchanged pleasantries during the meeting and discussed issues aiming at enhancing bilateral ties between India and Afghanistan. They also discussed matters of regional and multi-lateral importance to the two countries.

This is President Karzai's second visit to India this year. President Karzai's visit to India and the Prime Minister's landmark visit to Kabul in May 2011, carries forward the high-level engagement between the two countries.

The visit provides an opportunity for both countries to consolidate their strategic partnership and discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

President Karzai will also deliver the third R. K. Mishra Memorial Lecture organized by Observer Research Foundation on October 5.

Chetan Bhagat makes peace with Hirani

Chetan Bhagat is over with the idiot business. The author, who was miffed with the makers of 3 Idiots for not including his name in the film’s opening credits even though it was inspired from his book Five Point Someone, says he has made peace with the film’s director Rajkumar Hirani.

“I ran
into him one day and we were like, what are we supposed to do, be grumpy about this thing all our lives? Then, we decided it was time to put that behind us,” said Bhagat, who was in the Capital on Friday ahead of the launch of his latest book, Revolution 2020.

Does that mean he wouldn’t mind more adaptations of his scripts by the filmmaker? “I’ll have to think about that,” he says.

These days, there’s another filmmaker that’s drawing attention to Bhagat. In his Dusshera release Rascals, David Dhawan has named the two lead characters of the film Chetan and Bhagat. “I spoke to him on that, and believe me, we’re both pretty cool about it. It’s in good humour, and I really don’t mind … isn’t it a big thing that central characters in a mainstream Bollywood film are now named after an English-language author?”

He adds that Dhawan had, in fact, once wanted to work with him. So, why didn’t he? “I’d love to … I love his humour, but his films are so slapstick and although humour is important to me, so is a strong storyline … so we need that meeting ground,” he says.

The 37-year-old’s latest title, a love triangle revolving around characters with different ideologies, is set in Varanasi, or Haridwar on steroids as he puts it. “It was while I was delivering a lecture there that I observed how youngsters in small towns have very different issues, far from the metropolises and the IITs and IIMs.”

Happy Dussehra from Ramakrishna Denduluri

Introduction:

Dussehra is a very famous Hindu festival, which marks the overcoming of Ravana by Lord Rama. Dussehra also represents the triumph of warrior Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura.

The festival of Dussehra is an important celebration in many parts of the country. It is celebrated with great fanfare in most parts of northern India, Mysore and in the form of Durga Puja in West Bengal.

Importance of Dussehra:

All that is good in man is intense in the works of the RAM god-king, the ruler of Ayodhya. Lord Rama, the moral man with his moral way of life are the reasons to celebrate the famous festival of India Dussehra and Diwali. Diwali comes exactly 20 days after Dussehra in Amavan (new moon), during the first half of Kartik, sometime in October or November.

On the day of Dussehra, Ram, killed the great devil Ravan who had abducted Ram's wife Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. Ram, along with his brother Lakshman and devoted follower Hanuman and an army of monkeys fought a great battle to free his wife Sita charming. The war against Ravan lasted for ten days. Sita had been returned to her husband RAM and now create their way of Ayodhya in triumph and glory. So Diwali is the day that the Lord Ram, the embodiment of the god Vishnu in the Treta Yuga, returned to his capital Ayodhya after the exile of fourteen years.

Therefore, to commemorate the return of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana to Ayodhya, people enjoy Independence Day with the explosion of crackers and by illuminating their houses with mud diyas. This grand style of celebration have continued, year after year. Today, the whole of Ramayana is enacted on stage plays in huge pandals maidans, in cities, towns and villages, on the occasion of Dussehra and Diwali.

Rituals:

Worship of the Goddess is the oldest tradition, says the superiority of the female deity along the male gods who are not able to destroy the demon.

The worship of Durga Mata has also social implications. As goddess of war, which is a favorite of all the Kshatriyas, the warrior caste, once constituting the rulers and leaders of the aristocracy.

Celebration:

Dussehra is considered one of the most important Hindu festivals and significant, which is celebrated throughout the country with dedication and joy. The festival celebrates the victory of Lord Ram over the demon king Ravana, which means the victory of good over evil, light over darkness. Beautifully decorated tables and processions representing a variety of episodes from the life of Ram are taken in the streets. The tenth day or Vijayadasami is measured at a very significant day. Effigies of Ravana, his brother and his son Meghnad are burnt Kumbhkarna in open spaces. Actors dressed as Ram, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman arrive and shoot arrows of fire at these effigies, which swell with fireworks. As part of the celebration of Ram Lila (drama depicting the episodes from the life of Rama, Sita and Lakshman) differs dramatically in the country. Differently is famous throughout the country. Apart from Bengal and Central India, Dussehra Parva is celebrated in other states of India with equal zeal and enthusiasm, but with regional differences.

Nissan Sunny – Nissan’s close to perfect Sedan Launched!

The much awaited Nissan Sunny has been launched in India, and with its sub Rs. 6 lakh price tag, the Nissan Sunny does manage to ruffle a few feathers. Mind you, even with a very competitive price tag – Nissan Sunny does a bring lot to the table making it hard to resist for the budget conscious car buyer in India.

From the reviews I have read – Nissan Sunny can be termed close to a perfect car, especially with a Rs. 5.78 Lakh (Base Model) price tag.

Let’s take a look at the Top 5 great features of Nissan Sunny in India.
Best in class cabin space

Nissan claims that the Sunny has got the best in class cabin space. We bet that’s going to be a deciding factor for a budget conscious buyer in India wanting to buy a sedan with ample leg room and cabin space without spending a bomb. The space inside the Nissan Sunny is well sculpted and offers comfortable seating for the passengers at the rear even with the front seats fully pushed back.
Steering Tilt Adjustment is standard

The Nissan Sunny in India has three models, XE, XL and XV. For car buyers it is time to rejoice because Nissan offers power steering and electronic steering tilt adjustment as a standard feature in the Nissan Sunny XE model.
ABS, EBD and BA

Nissan Sunny in India offers safety braking features that promise to woo all safety conscious buyers. We all know what ABS stands for but the Nissan Sunny also has EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) and a BA (Brake Assist) system. Although we are not going to get into the technical details, for the lay person, EBD means a much better breaking performance. The Brake Assist system, if activated, engages the ABS or EBD which will basically allow you to pump up the stopping power of your car in times of panic braking.
Sleek and sporty styling

Unlike the bold, aggressive and macho styling of Chevy or certain variants of Honda sedans, the styling of the Nissan Sunny in India is sleek and sporty. The front headlights of the Nissan Sunny have a unique large tear drop shape and seem to be on the side corners, rather than the actual front of the car. Regardless of where they’re placed, they compliment the sleek and sporty look of the Nissan Sunny. The visual appeal of the Sunny is larger than what you’d expect from a mid-sized sedan. The body coloured bumpers are also standard with the base model, the Nissan Sunny XE. Definitely top marks here.
Great price tag and no waiting period

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the Nissan Sunny price has been pegged at Rs. 5.78 lakh. With the features that the car packs, this price tag is great for mid-sized sedan buyers wanting to go a notch higher than a small car or a small hatchback. Another great feature of the Nissan Sunny is the company’s promise of no waiting period for the delivery of the car. While that is impressive, what is more interesting is that Nissan has achieved a localization of more than 85 percent for the Nissan Sunny in India.

4.2.1 IOS Requirement Has Baseband

Thanks to Semaphore (creator of tiny umbrella) for this information:

It seems that Apple has decided to put a baseband requirement on iOS. So at this point, if you are using Saurik’s server or tiny umbrella and trying to restore 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, you will end up in recovery mode and tiny umbrella will not be able to pull you out of recovery. In this case, you will have to restore 4.1 again or you will have to restore 4.2.1 stock and be tether jailbroken. (Of course, I recommend 4.1 and not bothering with 4.2.1 at all). If you are an unlocker, this is a no brainer. Do not update to 4.2.1 even to test it at this point.
