Afghan President Hamid Karzai met Manmohan Singh

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here on Tuesday evening.

President Karzai, who arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit beginning today, met Dr. Singh at the Hyderabad House here ahead of bilateral talks between the two countries.

The Afghan President is expected to hold one-to-one and delegation level talks with Dr. Singh on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.

The two sides are expected to sign three agreements- one on enhancing an existing strategic partnership, and two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)- for cooperation in mining and hydrocarbons.

President Karzai earlier in the day met External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

The two leaders exchanged pleasantries during the meeting and discussed issues aiming at enhancing bilateral ties between India and Afghanistan. They also discussed matters of regional and multi-lateral importance to the two countries.

This is President Karzai's second visit to India this year. President Karzai's visit to India and the Prime Minister's landmark visit to Kabul in May 2011, carries forward the high-level engagement between the two countries.

The visit provides an opportunity for both countries to consolidate their strategic partnership and discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

President Karzai will also deliver the third R. K. Mishra Memorial Lecture organized by Observer Research Foundation on October 5.
